The Sewing Basket Inc. began in 1983 as Sheer Delights Smocking and French Handsewing, carrying smocking and heirloom sewing supplies and making custom-order childrenswear. In 1989 we incorporated and expanded to include sales of sewing machines and materials for adult clothing. Now we have returned to our roots and our passion. Gone are the machines and many of the adult garment supplies, and we no longer accept orders for custom-made garments.

Mary Fleming, owner of The Sewing Basket Inc., has over 40 years sewing experience. She began sewing as a child, making doll clothes with her grandmother on a treadle machine. After her daughters were born she discovered the arts of smocking and heirloom sewing. Although the girls are grown and married now, there are 5 granddaughters who allow her to sew for them and their dolls. A licensed Martha Pullen Heirloom Sewing instructor, she has attended numerous national and regional seminars including SAGA conventions, Sewing in the Mountains, School of Needle Arts, Martha Pullen Schools, Just CrossStitch seminars, etc.
