Silk noile is sometimes called "raw silk". Made from short fibers left after combing and carding, it is characterized by small flecks that are actually part of the silkworm's cocoon. It has a subtle sheen and looks similar to cotton, thus it's a more casual silk fabric. It drapes nicely, resists wrinkling, and travels well. This fabric is an ideal choice for skirts, slacks, jackets, etc.
This fuchsia silk designer fabric is a French import, from the cutting rooms at Dior. It can be handwashed in cold water.
